Song Drama Productions was formed as an outlet to explore classical music in a new light. The goal of our company is to create works that are inspired by interdisciplinary art forms; from poetry, to music, to theatre and dance.
We especially desire to give a fresh perspective of art song to all audiences. New, inspiring, and uniquely a Vancouver initiative - this new art form gains momentum as more and more performers are taking it on.
SDP was spearheaded by Vancouver artist, Adrienne Paulson in 2009 when she directed a powerful presentation at the University of British Columbia that integrated songs and poetry from and in reaction to the Holocaust. Because of this study, as well as the influence of the summer music program at the Vancouver International Song Institute, Adrienne was inspired to take an assertive leap into the exciting (and sometimes dangerous!) development of this new classical music medium.
